Submissions for the 20th Annual Rendezvous with Madness Film Festival are now closed.  Thank you to all of the filmmakers who submitted their work for consideration.  Our programming team is currently reviewing all of the submissions and we will be contacting filmmakers in mid-September with the results of our programming decisions.

  • Rendezvous with Madness Program Deadline: August 17th, 2012 Rendezvous with Madness (RWM) is the world’s first and longest running film festival showcasing films that address issues of mental health and/or addiction. The festival provides a unique opportunity for filmmakers to screen their work and has grown into a filmmaker favourite over the past eighteen years. The objectives of the Rendezvous with Madness Film Festival are:
    − To explore the facts and mythologies of mental illness and/or addiction, as presented by Canadian and international filmmakers.
    − To facilitate discussions amongst filmmakers and audiences with respect to these cinematic representations.
    − To provide filmmakers an opportunity to screen their films that may otherwise not be seen.
    − To increase awareness, and advocacy for mental health and addiction issues and concerns.

    RWM brings independent Canadian and International film and video to the public. RWM features strong programs that address the facts and mythologies of mental illness and addiction.
    Each of the various programs focuses on different themes and includes panel discussions involving the filmmakers, artists and people with professional and personal experience with mental illness and addiction.
  • Since 2001, Rendezvous with Madness has programmed films specifically for high school students through Rendezvous in the Classroom program. All films submitted to the festival by the deadline will automatically be considered for the Rendezvous in the Classroom program.
  • Rendezvous with Madness accepts short and feature length films of any genre, that touch on issues of mental health and addiction, from anywhere in the world. Special consideration will be given to films that:
    −Present issues of mental health and addiction from local, multicultural or youth perspectives.
    −Premiere at Rendezvous with Madness
  • − All festival entries must be submitted by August 17th, 2012.
    − Incomplete entries will not be accepted.
    − Screening prints must arrive at RWM no later than October 26, 2012. Unless an alternate arrangement is made entries arriving after this date may not be screened.
    − Selection is made from a DVD or online preview copy of the film, do not send master tapes or film prints for preview.
    − Preview DVDs must be labeled with the title, running time and contact information (including name, address, and phone number)
    − Links to online submissions should include the film title in the subject line and print source contact within the body of the email.
    − Non English speaking films must be subtitled or dubbed.
    − RWM reserves the right to use photographic stills, clips or excerpted programmed works (up to 3 minutes) for promotional and broadcast purposes.
    − DVD submission copies are not returned. All submissions will be added to the festival archives. RWM may make its archives available to film festivals, broadcasters, distributors and curators for preview purposes only.
    − If you are sending work from outside Canada, please indicate on the outside of the package “FOR FESTIVAL PREVIEW ONLY – NO COMMERCIAL VALUE” or you may be required to pay customs duties. Declare less than $20.00 CAN value on the package.
    − Letters of acceptance/rejection will be issued in September 2012
    − Formats accepted to screen at the festival are 35mm, 16mm, HDCAM, Beta SP and Digibeta in NTSC or PAL.
  • With your submission you must include the following:
    − Α Completed and Signed Festival Submission form
    − DVD preview or link to online copy of the film (NTSC or Zone 0 or 1, PAL accepted)
    − Press kit – include a film synopsis (250 word limit), a film blurb (25 – 50 word limit), full production credits, director’s biography (200 word limit), production stills (1-3 300dpi images), a director’s headshot (300 dpi), list of previous festival screenings and awards, and print contact information.
    − Ship material in a protective mailer; bubble wrap is suggested. DO NOT SHIP IN FIBRE FILLED ENVELOPES.
  • I certify that I am authorized to submit this work to Rendezvous with Madness Film Festival. Any copyrighted materials included in the work have been legally cleared for use. Should my film be selected for the 2012 festival I will have a print available by October 26, 2012. I understand that all print source information provided will be printed in the festival catalogue and may be made available on the festival website. The festival is entitled to use part of my film (up to 3 minutes) for promotional purposes and I grant the festival full permission to use the still images I supplied for all 2012 festival promotional purposes. I understand that the festival will add my preview DVD to its archive and will be made available to festivals, broadcasters, distributors or other potential buyers. Only upon my permission (or the permission of the distributor) may this film/video be used for year-round festival outreach initiatives. I understand that my film submission must arrive on or before August 17th, 2012 to be eligible for the 2012 festival. I have read and agree to the festival submission and participation guidelines:
